WORK EXPERIENCE PROGRAM
Work Experience Program:
The Work Experience Program (“WEP”) is a half-credit (1/2) or one-credit (1) paid work experience that will provide students in their junior and/or senior year with a link between school and the workplace. The program will provide students with a hands-on opportunity to experience and work in occupations and/or careers that may be of interest to them and/or to learn more about the working world. The course will consist of a minimum of 27 hours of class and course work and a minimum of 150 hours (1/2 credit) or 300 hours (1 credit) of on-site work experience. The primary goals of this course are to help students obtain a first-hand understanding and appreciation of the knowledge, skills and education requirements necessary for various occupations. Through a combination of their academic work and their work experiences, this course will help students formulate relationships with adult role-models from within the business community to instill, reinforce and demonstrate successful employment characteristics and the importance of behaviors such as: a positive attitude, integrity and ethics, human relations, teamwork, timeliness, good study habits and other positive traits. In addition, it will help students develop skills and behaviors that will help them integrate their role within the workplace and their community. Students MUST have their own transportation to and from their internship site. For more details on WEP, please contact Joan McGrath at [email protected].
